Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1915 of 25 September 2025 on the authorization of L-tryptophan produced by Corynebacterium glutamicum KCCM 80346 as a feed additive for all animal species
On September 25, 2025, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1915, authorizing L-tryptophan produced by Corynebacterium glutamicum KCCM 80346 as a feed additive for all animal species. This regulation was adopted under Regulation (EC) No. 1831/2003 on additives for use in animal nutrition, in order to ensure the safety of animals, consumers, users, and the environment, while recognizing the nutritional efficacy of this substance.
The regulation specifies that L-tryptophan may be used in feed and drinking water for all animal species, provided that it is protected against ruminal degradation in ruminants and that the total intake of essential and conditionally essential amino acids is taken into account. Methods of analysis for identifying and measuring L-tryptophan in additives, compound feed, and water are also defined, as are the conditions for storage, stability, and labeling of the additive.
The regulation was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on September 26, 2025, and is directly applicable in all Member States, with an authorization period until October 16, 2035.
