(EU) 2025\/1920<\/strong>, adopted by the <strong data-start=\"227\" data-end=\"250\">European Commission<\/strong> on <strong data-start=\"254\" data-end=\"271\">June 12, 2025<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"273\" data-end=\"327\">amends Regulation (EU) 2017\/745 on medical devices<\/strong> with regard to the <strong data-start=\"347\" data-end=\"396\">assignment of Unique Device Identifiers (UDI)<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"420\">spectacle frames<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"442\">spectacle lenses<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"448\" data-end=\"481\" data-is-only-node=\"\">pre-assembled reading glasses<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"482\" data-end=\"485\" \/>The main objective is to <strong data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"539\">optimize the traceability<\/strong> of these products while <strong data-start=\"564\" data-end=\"611\">avoiding an excessive proliferation of UDIs<\/strong> for very similar products, given their <strong data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"677\">many design variations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"680\" data-end=\"1170\">The regulation introduces the <strong data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"738\">concept of Master UDI-DI<\/strong>, allowing <strong data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"759\">frames<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"771\">lenses<\/strong>, or <strong data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"795\">reading glasses<\/strong> with the same combination of <strong data-start=\"825\" data-end=\"856\">essential design parameters<\/strong>\u2014such as the <strong data-start=\"869\" data-end=\"901\">horizontal width of the lens<\/strong> for frames, the <strong data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"950\">spherical and addition power<\/strong> for lenses, and the <strong data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"998\">width\/power combination<\/strong> for ready-made reading glasses\u2014to be <strong data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1073\">grouped under a single identifier<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1077\" \/>A <strong data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1100\">new Master UDI-DI<\/strong> must be assigned as soon as a <strong data-start=\"1131\" data-end=\"1162\">change in design parameters<\/strong> occurs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1172\" data-end=\"1535\">These changes are intended to <strong data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1230\">simplify data management<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1245\">Eudamed<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"1292\">European database for medical devices<\/strong>, while ensuring <strong data-start=\"1309\" data-end=\"1353\">reliable identification and traceability<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1357\" \/><strong data-start=\"1357\" data-end=\"1379\">Economic operators<\/strong> will need to <strong data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1425\">adapt their internal systems<\/strong> as well as their <strong data-start=\"1443\" data-end=\"1481\">printing and scanning technologies<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"1485\" data-end=\"1534\">comply with these new regulatory requirements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1537\" data-end=\"1830\">The <strong data-start=\"1541\" data-end=\"1607\">regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication<\/strong> and will be <strong data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1656\">applicable from November 1, 2028<\/strong>, although <strong data-start=\"1667\" data-end=\"1684\">manufacturers<\/strong> may <strong data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1736\">anticipate the assignment of Master UDI-DIs<\/strong> starting now.<br data-start=\"1750\" data-end=\"1753\" \/>This <strong data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1781\">EU legislative text<\/strong> is <strong data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"1829\" data-is-only-node=\"\">directly applicable in all Member
