Legislative Affairs
As a lobbying firm, we defend the interests of our clients
through the EU decision-making process.
Recent statistics show that between 70% and 75% of all laws
voted on by the national parliaments of EU Member States are, in fact, adopted
on the basis of EU legislation. This means that if a company wishes to do
business in a favourable legislative framework, it must ensure that EU
legislation that is under preparation will ultimately reflect its needs and
interests. Thanks to our intimate knowledge of the EU decision-making process,
we get involved in the preparation of EU law on behalf of our clients at a very
early stage in the legislative process.
Our legislative affairs practice
The legislative affairs practice entails the following:
-
We convey to the European Commission the concerns/interests
of our clients with regards to a specific piece of legislation which is under
preparation;
-
We monitor the adoption process of EU legislation by
participating in the hearings organised by the European Commission, in the
sessions of the European Parliament, and in the seminars or conferences
organised by trade associations or think tanks;
-
We interpret and analyze the provisions included in draft
legislation in order to provide our clients with a clear understanding of the
impact the legislation may have on their activities;
-
We set up a strategy aimed at supporting/reversing the
adoption of legislation according to our clients' interests;
-
We propose amendments to the EU legislature on behalf of
our clients.
As achievements in the field of Legislative Affairs, we have
had amendments passed at the highest level of the EU institutions - European
Commission, European Parliament and the Council of Ministers. We also have
specific experience in lobbying the EU and Member States' authorities within the
framework of the complex EU standardization and comitology processes.
