Product safety
EC
Directive 2001/95 on general product safety (the so called
“General Product Safety Directive” (GPSD)) requires
that only safe products are put on the EU market. This directive is
complemented by other pieces of legislation (among which the so called
“New approach directives”) which apply to specific
products. EN technical standards then provide for specifications
related to the products falling within the scope of either the GPSD or
specific legislation.
Private companies wishing to sell their products in the EU have to cope
with the rules included in the GPSD, specific legislation and with
technical standards.
We have great experience in advising clients on the impact of EU rules
on product safety. We represent clients in meetings organised by
standardization bodies.
